It's been almost 3 years since More Than a Mumma was born and it has touched over 400 Newcastle and Hunter Region Mumma's all at various stages of their motherhood journey. Our commitment two years ago was to strengthening the mental health and overall wellbeing of Mums by increasing their opportunities for connection. Numerous workshops and Events have been created and many opportunties for Mummas to meet each other and learn ways to grow and nurture themselves has developed.
In 2018 the vision grew and it was finally time to develop and open a "hub" that truely serves the Mumma community of Newcastle.
And by "Hub" we mean a centre, where Mumma's can come and attend workshops to connect with each other and also connect with local services to help them with whatever stage in life they are at. Creative workshops, yoga, book club, dancing, singing, meditation, wellbeing, self help. anything that a Mumma needs. We want to provide a safe space for it.
We want to be of service to all Mummas! Young Mumma's, Mumma's with grown up children, New Mumma's, LBGTQIA Mummas Single Mumma's, Mumma's with disabilities! Just all the Mummas really! We’re all in this together!
We want the Hub to consistantly showcase local businesses run by Mummas as we know how hard it is to run a successful business and we would love to provide a platform for Mummas to shine bright with their talents.
Our ultimate "golden egg" vision is that as well as the above described activities it can be a drop in centre that is open 7 days a week where Mumma's can come for a cuppa and a cake, bring their babies/toddler/or come alone.... just for those times when life gets really hard and they need to leave the house but shopping centres are too overwhelming and they may feel like they are isolated and just need someone to listen and be there. We would invite councellors, baby nurses, community organisations to attend on rotation every week so Mumma's knew what days' they could come and get a bit more support.
Of course this is a huge huge dream as this would involve some serious fundraising to enable us to be available to get it off the ground. We would need to employ staff as well which would be essential to making it happen.
We have already received great community support in the past and that has helped me get the confidence to really put it out there and ask for help!
In 2018 we officially became a Not For Profit Incorporated organisation and this will be the year we make the More Than a Mumma Hub a reality!
